About Monique Maion: Monique Maion is a unique talent straight out of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Singing in English she lays down, for the world to listen, her debut release, Lola, a 21st century “courtesan” ‘who listens to Coltrane whilst putting on her panty-hose’.
Having been strongly influenced by the likes of Tom Waits and some of the biggest female blues voices such as Big Mamma Thornton and Memphis Minnie whom she all honours by incorporating covers of their tracks, Monique brings you Jazz, Blues mixed with a Glam stage presence and coupled with the story telling of a sinner. Lola’s life is filled with lust, desire but remains dramatically dark and wounded. On stage, Monique expands to an energetically alternative and underground “pretty
woman”.
Still only in her early twenties she was nominated in 2008 in Brazil in the “Best National Concert” and “Best Newcomer” categories whilst receiving the backing of magazines such as Rolling Stone Brazil.
Constantly gigging in Brazil, at the end of 2008, she decided to try herself out in the world and took on a small European tour, which brought her to Germany and Switzerland where she has developed a strong fan base.
Restless as she is, she has two other projects going on, one called “Sunset” a Folk project and “Die Katzen”, her minimalist electro project.
